Collection: Nicotine Salt E-Liquids

What Are Nic Salts?

Nic salts are a type of e-liquid that contains nicotine extracted from tobacco leaves and stabilised with a natural acid, most commonly benzoic acid.

Nicotine salt e-liquid has a lower pH than freebase nicotine, which reduces alkalinity and produces a smoother throat hit even at higher concentrations.

The lower pH level enables faster nicotine absorption into the bloodstream, creating a more immediate and satisfying vaping experience for adult smokers switching from cigarettes.

Freebase e-liquids use a purer form of nicotine without acid stabilisation, which increases harshness at strengths above 12mg. Nic salts remove that harshness and allow vapers to use 10mg or 20mg strengths comfortably in low-wattage MTL pod kits.

What Ingredients Are In Nic Salts?

Nicotine salt e-liquids contain 5 core ingredients: nicotine salts, propylene glycol (PG), vegetable glycerin (VG), food-grade flavourings and benzoic acid. Propylene glycol carries flavour and contributes to throat hit intensity. Vegetable glycerin produces visible vapour and adds smoothness to each inhale. Food-grade flavourings create the wide range of taste profiles available in nic salt ranges. Benzoic acid lowers the pH of the nicotine, which reduces alkalinity and allows a smoother throat hit at higher nicotine strengths such as 10mg and 20mg. Most UK nic salt e-liquids use a 50/50 PG/VG ratio, balanced for flavour clarity and vapour production in MTL devices.

How Do Nic Salts Work?

Nicotine salts work by combining freebase nicotine with an organic acid, typically benzoic acid, to form a stable compound with a lower pH level.

The lower pH reduces throat irritation during inhalation, which allows higher nicotine concentrations without harshness. Benzoic acid enables nicotine salt e-liquid to vaporise at lower temperatures, making nic salts compatible with low-wattage pod systems and MTL vape devices.

Faster nicotine absorption delivers a more immediate effect, closer to the nicotine delivery speed of traditional cigarettes. Nic salts perform best in pod vape kits operating between 8W and 15W with coil resistance above 1.0Ω.

What Is the Difference Between Nic Salts and Freebase Nicotine?

The main difference between nic salts and freebase nicotine is pH level. Nicotine salts have a lower pH due to benzoic acid, which produces a smoother throat hit and enables faster nicotine absorption. Freebase nicotine has a higher pH and delivers a sharper throat hit, especially above 12mg.

What Nicotine Strength Should I Choose?

The right nicotine strength depends on your smoking habit and nicotine tolerance. Choosing a strength that matches your daily cigarette intake reduces the risk of under-dosing or overconsumption. Nic salt e-liquids are commonly available in 3 strengths: 5mg, 10mg and 20mg.

• 3mg–6mg: suits light smokers consuming 1 to 5 cigarettes per day

• 6mg–12mg: suits moderate smokers consuming 5 to 15 cigarettes per day

• 12mg–20mg: suits heavy smokers consuming 15+ cigarettes per day

10mg and 20mg strengths are the most common options in UK nic salt e-liquid ranges. Start with a higher strength and reduce gradually as your cravings decrease. Consult the nicotine strength guide for a full breakdown.

What Are the Benefits of Nicotine Salt E-Liquids?

Nicotine salt e-liquids provide 7 benefits that improve nicotine delivery and vaping comfort for transitioning smokers and everyday MTL vapers:

• Provides a smoother throat hit: lower pH reduces irritation at higher nicotine strengths

• Enables faster nicotine absorption: benzoic acid accelerates delivery into the bloodstream

• Delivers greater nicotine satisfaction: rapid uptake reduces the need for frequent draws

• Supports higher nicotine strengths: 10mg and 20mg remain comfortable without harshness

• Reduces harshness compared with freebase: lower alkalinity softens each inhale

• Works well with low-power pod systems: designed for MTL kits operating at 8W to 15W

• Offers longer shelf stability: the stable chemical structure extends usable shelf life

Nic salt e-liquids suit ex-smokers transitioning to vaping, particularly those using vape starter kits designed for mouth-to-lung inhalation.

How to Use Nicotine Salt E-Liquid

To use nicotine salt e-liquid, fill the pod or tank of a low-wattage device and inhale using a mouth-to-lung (MTL) draw. Nic salt e-liquids perform best in pod systems and vape pens operating between 8W and 15W with coil resistance of 1.0Ω or higher.

The MTL inhale style replicates the draw of a traditional cigarette, which makes nic salts suitable for adult smokers switching to vaping. High-nicotine nic salt e-liquids deliver a smooth, satisfying throat hit without the harshness associated with freebase nicotine at equivalent strengths.

Avoid using nic salt e-liquids in high-powered sub-ohm devices, as excessive nicotine intake and an uncomfortable vaping experience can result.

FAQs

Are Nic Salts Better for You?

Nic salts are not risk-free, yet nicotine salt e-liquids provide a smoother throat hit, faster nicotine absorption and better craving control than freebase alternatives. Transitioning smokers benefit from the reduced harshness at 10mg and 20mg strengths in low-watt MTL pod kits.

According to UK public health guidance, vaping is considered less harmful than smoking, though not without risk.

Are Nic Salts Stronger Than Freebase E-Liquid?

Nic salts can be used at higher strengths because their lower pH reduces throat harshness at elevated concentrations. A 20mg nic salt e-liquid delivers a smoother inhale than 20mg freebase nicotine. Faster nicotine absorption provides quicker craving relief, which makes nic salts popular among transitioning smokers seeking immediate satisfaction.

Can You Use Nic Salts in Pod Systems?

Yes, nic salts are designed for pod systems and MTL vape kits. Compatible devices use coil resistance between 1.0Ω and 1.8Ω at low wattage, typically 8 to 15W. Nic salt e-liquids are not suitable for high-power sub-ohm kits with coils below 0.6Ω, as excessive nicotine delivery and an unpleasant vaping experience can result.

Which Vape Coil Works Best with Nic Salt E-Liquids?

MTL coils with high resistance between 1.0Ω and 1.8Ω work best with nic salt e-liquids at 8-15W. Some 0.8Ω MTL mesh coils perform well at 12–18W for slightly warmer vapour production. Sub-ohm coils rated at 0.6Ω or below are too powerful for nic salts and produce excessive nicotine delivery with reduced flavour quality.

What Is the Difference Between Nic Salts and Bar Salts?

Bar salts are nicotine salt e-liquids designed to replicate the flavour profiles of disposable vapes. Bar salt e-liquids and standard nic salts share the same nicotine base, yet bar salts typically feature sweeter, more intense flavour profiles with stronger cooling or fruit notes.

Same:

• Nic-salt base with smooth inhale
• Available in 10mg and 20mg strengths
• 50/50 VG/PG ratio in 10ml TPD-compliant bottles
• Designed for low-watt MTL pod kits

Different:

• Flavour intensity: bar salts replicate disposable-style sweetness and cooling
• Flavour profiles: bar salts focus on fruity and icy blends inspired by popular disposable vapes

Nicotine strength is the same between both types. Read the full bar salts vs nic salts comparison for more detail.

How Long Do Nic Salts Last?

Nicotine salt e-liquids have a shelf life of 1 to 2 years from the manufacturing date. Check the expiry date or batch code printed on the 10ml bottle. A single 10ml bottle lasts a moderate vaper 3 to 5 days and a heavy vaper 1 to 2 days, depending on draw frequency and pod capacity.
